Chemical equilibrium
The notion of maintaining balance is central to our very existence. Students will examine the principles of chemical equilibrium and determine the equilibrium expression and equilibrium constant. They will use Le Chatelier’s Principle to predict and explain changes to equilibrium systems.
Many of the most familiar chemicals we meet every day are either acids or bases. They are important in many of the chemical reactions occurring around us and within our bodies. Students will be able to identify common acids and bases and use Bronsted-Lowry and Lewis theory to explain acid and base action. They will also apply equilibrium concepts to acid base systems, including buffer systems, calculate pH and pOH and conduct pH titrations.
